Who is the Volleymol

Game explanation: Who is the Volleymol?

An exciting and educational volleyball game in which players try to discover who the secret mole is on the other team.

🎯 Objective of the game

The objective of the game is twofold:

  • As a team, you try to win the set.
  • As a player, you try to unmask the mole on the other team.
The mole: tries to make subtle mistakes to help their team lose, but without standing out.

👥 Number of players

The game is played with two teams. You decide the number of players yourself (for example 5 vs 5). Each team has exactly one mole.

🧩 Requirements & preparation

For each team you need a stack of cards (downloaded after purchase) with:

  • regular player cards;
  • 1 mole card with an assignment.
Examples of assignments on the mole card:

  • “You are the worst passer.”
  • “You are the worst attacker.”
  • “You are the worst communicator.”

All players blindly draw a card. Only the player with the mole card knows that he or she is the mole.

📌 Important agreements

  • No one tells which card they have.
  • You look for only the mole on the other team, not on your own team.
  • The mole performs the assignment subtly (not doing everything badly, but just enough to make the team lose).

🌐 Role of the coach

The coach can use this game to train tactical awareness in a targeted way:

  • Setters learn to deliberately look for the weakest blocker/passer on the opponent’s side.
  • Servers learn to serve at the weakest passer.
  • The coach keeps score and also joins in guessing who the moles are.

▶️ Flow of the game

  1. Deal the cards: everyone draws a card, one mole per team.
  2. Play a set: play to 25, 20, or 15 points (whatever fits your training).
  3. Mole at work: the mole subtly carries out their assignment to make their own team lose.

📊 Scoring after the set

  • Winning team: every player except the mole gets 1 point.
  • Mole on the winning team: gets no point (the mole has “failed”).
  • Losing team: only the mole gets 1 point.
Example set points:
Team A wins → 4 non-moles get 1 point = 4 points.
Team B loses → only the mole gets 1 point = 1 point.

🔍 Who is the mole? – guessing

  1. Each player individually guesses who the mole is on the other team (no consultation).
  2. A correct answer earns 1 extra point.
  3. Then the moles reveal themselves.
Example total score:
Team A: 4 points from the set + 1 correct guess = 5 points.
Team B: 1 point from the set + 5 correct guesses = 6 points → Team B wins the game!

💡 Why this game is so valuable

  • Players learn to observe the posture, choices, and behavior of opponents better.
  • Improves game insight and game intelligence.
  • Creates lots of fun, tension, and engagement during training.
